Rumba Café offers live music by first-class, local musicians, Wednesdays through Saturdays. Depending on the night, our musical artists play anything from cha-cha to tango, salsa to bossa nova, latin jazz and rock to samba do Brazil, and more.

Verny Varela 

 

Verny Varela is an arranger, composer, singer and flutist who holds a bachelor’s degree in music from the Universidad del Valle in Cali, Colombia. He was born in Cali and grew up in the "Barrio Obrero" where he started singing and playing with his father's band, "El Nuevo Son." In 1996 in Cali and in Tulua he sang with Ismael Miranda, Adalberto Santiago and Pete "El Conde" Rodríguez , members of the Fania All Stars. In 1997 Verny was the lead singer in the Gabino Pampini Band. Later, he went on tour in Europe and in the U.S. with Tito Gomez. Verny wrote and sang for Thievery Corporation in the albums "The Richest man in Babylon" and "The Cosmic Game". Also, he wrote and recorded on the Hip Hop CD "The 51st State." In New York in 2002 Verny sang on the 40th Anniversary CD of the outstanding charanga band, Orquesta Broadway.

In 2004 Verny released his album " Amar de Nuevo" which got in the Latin Grammy list of the best tropical albums 2005. Songs like "Matilde" and "he vuelto amar" became hits in Cali Colombia. Also, this album got very good reviews in Italy and Germany,Now, Verny Varela is a student in the Jazz Studies Program at the University of the District of Columbia

Kike and Miguel

Kike & Miguel perform an eclectic mix of Latin American rock and South American folksongs in a wide range of musical interpretations. They are known for intricate vocal harmonies and virtuosic guitar work - no two performances are alike. Kike & Miguel met in Ecuador in 1980 where they were both on tour, and have played together since in the popular groups Latin Heat, Solazo, Barro, Alma, and as a duo. They currently have a CD titled “Kike & Miguel En Vivo desde el Café Toledo”. For more info and music samples visit:
